After centuries of legend and tales of valor, we still seem to admire this legendary king of the Britons. He has been an inspiration to millions and has been open to interpretation by dozens of scholars and readers alike. It is said he was the greatest king to ever walk the earth. But who the heck was this guy? And why is it his story is so famous?

We all know the story of Lancelot and the knights; the entire ordeal with Merlin and the quest for the holy grail. Yet, these stories are just legend passed down from years of oral history. Some scholars believe Arthur was one man, yet others see him as an amalgamation of many different figures in England’s history.

The most widely accepted view was that Arthur was a Roman general. While the British Isles were being invaded by barbarians from Scandanavia, a man known as Lucius Artorius Castus or “Arthur” led a group of warriors at Handrian’s wall, the dividing point of the island. He was known as a brave soldier who protected his fellow Britons from the invaders.

Actually I think evidence was found that he led the British against the Saxons some time in the 8th century.
