Don’t Mess with Texas
January 2nd, 2009
The State Highway Department of Texas began an anti-littering campaign in 1987 that was promoted by the slogan “Don’t Mess with Texas”. This slogan was used in many advertisements, t-shirts, magnets, bumper stickers, etc. When a Texas businessman wanted backing for a new venture in New York City, he was turned down. The Texan was then shown “Don’t Mess with Texas” stickers that had been posted in the bank’s offices, which was a reference to falling oil places that had hurt the Texas economy.
