Dolly Parton Diet
In 1981, there was a story that was spread orally by means of photocopies that claimed Dolly Parton had lost weight by following a strict diet that consisted of all you wanted to eat of one food each day plus servings of “T.J.’s Miracle Soup.” Many people primarily in the Midwest followed the diet with some claiming to have success. It had been titled “The Hollywood Diet”. It is claimed that it had been developed by “Sacred Heart Hospital-Spokane.”
There was a parody titled “The Stress Diet” which was circulating around the same time. This consisted of beginning each day with a light breakfast, which then progressed with more and more cookies, pizza, beer, and snacks. With this diet came a list of diet tips which included, “Snacks consumed in a movie don’t count.” and “If no one sees you eat it, it has no calories”.
