Ronald Reagan: one of America’s greatest presidents. On March 30, 1981, President Reagan was shot outside the Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C. A few others surrounding the President were wounded. The man with the gun was John Hinckley Jr.

John Hinckley Jr. is one of the forgotten psychopaths of modern history. He was raised in a healthy home environment and had dreams of being a song-writer. He developed odd behavior while living on his own. He would randomly return home broke and fabricate a story about having a girlfriend.

In 1976, Director Martin Scorsese released TAXI DRIVER, a psychological drama starring Robert De Niro, about a lonely Taxi Driver who observes people for his own pleasure and plans to assassinate a politician. Hinckley repeatedly viewed this film multiple times and felt he and the main character were very similar.

He became obsessed with actress Jodie Foster, who starred in the film. He moved to New Haven, Connecticut to be near her at Yale University. He developed all kinds of plans to get her attention. Failing to reach her emotionally, Hinckley felt that by killing Reagan he would be able to reach Jodie and proclaim his love for her.
