Dead Man’s Island
Dead Man’s Island is located in the Pacific Ocean in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Canadian naval base on the island has been in existence since 1943, although the island has been used by people since pre-history. This island has a well-known history of violence and death. People have explained seeing strange lights, hearing chants, and seeing ghostly apparitions roaming around the grounds. In the 1700s, the Northern and the Southern Salish people were at war. During one battle, the Southern Salish people took women, children, and the elderly as hostages. The Northern Salish people surrendered following this, but they were all then slaughtered. This land then became a burial place, at first for the Salish nation, and then the Europeans. In 1887, Mountain View Cemetery was built on the island. To this day, paranormal events are reported coming from the island. These events include the sound of screams, glows changing into human form, and apparitions in the fog.
