The Dark Side of the Rainbow

September 25th, 2008

The Dark Side of the Rainbow is the name of the phenomena between Pink Floyd’s music album The Dark Side of the Moon, and the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. People believe that if you listen to the the album while watching the film, they correspond with each other. This idea is known as synchronicity, which is defined by Wikipedia.org as:

“Synchronicity is the experience of two or more events which are causally unrelated occurring together in a meaningful manner.

The concept does not question, or compete with, the notion of causality. Instead, it maintains that just as events may be grouped by cause, they may also be grouped by their meaning.

In order to be synchronised, the events must be related to one another temporally so as to rule out direct causation.”

Pink Floyd and the band have continuously refuted anything related to this phenomenon saying anything is purely a coincidence. Producer Alan Parsons worked on the album, and when asked about The Dark Side of the Rainbow he replied,

“It was an American radio guy who pointed it out to me. It’s such a non-starter, a complete load of eyewash. I tried it for the first time about two years ago. One of my fiancee’s kids had a copy of the video, and I thought I had see what it was all about. I was very disappointed. The only thing I noticed was that the line “balanced on the biggest wave” came up when Dorothy was kind of tightrope walking along a fence. One of the things any audio professional will tell you is that the scope for the drift between the video and the record is enormous; it could be anything up to twenty seconds by the time the record’s finished. And anyway, if you play any record with the sound turned down on the TV, you will find things that work.”

The men who apparently created the phenomena, all deny ever trying to spark any controversy over this. However, anything is possible and even if they never intended to correspond their album with the film, thousands of people have noticed something. I will post a video to show the phenomenon.
