Crescent City Books

April 12th, 2009

Crescent City Books is located on Chartres Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, and property recordings of this spot go all the way back to the year 1808. Historians of the French Quarter believe that there were two other structures that existed prior to this, but were destroyed by fire in 1788 and 1794. In 1829, a man by the name of Louis Pecquet bought the land and removed everything that stood in order to make room for the construction of one main commercial building. Ownership of the property changed again in 1870, and the building was torn-down and in replace of it is the building that is currently the home to Crescent City Books. However, this place is also a hotspot for paranormal activity.

On the first two floors of the building there are thousands of books of all different genres. This mixed along with furniture provides a nice and comfortable atmosphere for readers as they browse this rare collection of literature. The first floor is believed to be haunted by the spirit of a child named Christopher. He walks around and touches the books on the shelves and sometimes even knocks them off to the ground. On the second floor of the book store, ghost hunters and psychics believe there are several children that haunt the area. They are seen climbing over the chairs and pushing the books off the shelves as well. Children’s laughter is also heard as they are running amongst the bookshelves.

The spirit of a man in his late 20s has also been seen on the second floor, wearing attire typical to that of the 1880s. He did not die at this location and it is unsure as to why he haunts the bookstore. There are also ghosts of two murder victims on the third floor. The first of these spirits is a man who was killed by a knife and the second is a woman who was killed by a drug overdose. These ghosts come with an intense feeling of sadness to anyone who goes on the third floor. In the attic, there is a spirit dressed in a fancy suit with a gold chain. People believe this is most likely the ghost of Louis Pecquet.
