Creation Myth or Fact?

March 19th, 2009

God created the earth in seven days as the Bible tells us. During this process he created Adam, the first man. Yet Adam was lonely and needed company. So God took a rib from Adam and made a woman. She was named Eve. Together they were the first couple on earth. We have all heard this story and some of us have even believed it. The creation story has captivated people with the idea that a supreme being created everything. Even though this story may be well-written, it has no basis for fact. There is no geological evidence to say that two Caucasian-white people came from a supreme being and lied in a big garden.

If this story is true, then it has a lot more to be told. If Adam and Eve were the first people alive how did, their children have children? Was their incest involved? And what about people of different colors and races? Where did they come from? The Bible tends to leave a lot missing and seems to hope that its readers will just follow the story as written and not ask questions. But if you were to start asking questions, you would begin to realize that the creation story has so many plot-holes in it that it wouldn’t even make a good made-for-TV movie! So how can the creation story be factual if it doesn’t tell us the true origins of mankind? I guess its all about having faith.

Yea, thats all its about, faith. We all came from somewhere. We are breathing right now because of our soul, We think, act, and are emotional for some reason. There has to be a supreme being out there. My personal belief is that many religions are extremists and they are like you have to do this and this and this. I think thats why God laid out the ten commandments lol. He was like yo this is the deal children, follow these, don’t get out of control lol, live your life and follow these ten commandments.

Religions can be so extreme that it interferes with your life in general. They want money, they want you to attend all these events. We were put on this Earth for a reason, to live out what we are destined to do and who we are supposed to be. With extremist religions, it interferes with that plan. Theres so many religions and so many obligations out there that no one knows what to believe meanwhile if you just follow these ten commandments, which I’m sure almost ever religion promotes, you’ll be okay.

I am the Lord your God, You shall have no other gods before me
You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God
Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
    Honor your father and mother
    You shall not murder
    You shall not commit adultery
    You shall not steal
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife
You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.

If you were to follow all of these, you are an honorable and respectable person. What religion has the right to tell you that you aren’t doing more than just following these. It cannot get any more simpler than this. I do believe however, that if you fail to obey each one of these commandments, there will be punishment in the after-life. We are all equal here, since when does the Church, who is run by average human beings just like us, have the power to tell us we are going to Hell if we don’t do this or this. Just follow the ten commandments, they are just as confused as we are on the after-life and what is going to happen when we die. It’s going to remain a mystery to us until it happens to each and every one of us.

That’s the whole point of life, we don’t know what is going to happen next, because we are trying to learn something for spiritual development. If we follow all the commandments and accept what life throws at us, we are doing as much as we can to do what we are destined to do.

The Creation story doesn’t have to be read as factually true for us. It can be read as an allegory that contains universal truths that reveals how we interacted and viewed with each other and the universe.

The story never says they were white. It says they were the first two. It never says that God did not create others.

You are right, “G”. I guess Ian was just explaining on society’s view of the creation story, not based on what is actually written.

There are only a few chapters regarding the creation story, and hundreds about Gods love, Jesus sacrifice. You can see the emphasis. The book of Genesis simply tells us that God created us, yes it’s nice to know how we came about in more details but it’s about faith and when we get to heaven (for those who have accepted Christ) all will be explained. But there are always people that will reject this, come on, even 60 years after WW2 people are already rejecting the holocaust – David Irving for example. And when the bible was written do you really think people had an inkling about the big bang theory, quantum physics, multi string dimensions, etc. It had to be written so the people of that time could understand.
These are only my own thoughts from the previous questions
Adam and Eve were permitted to have children, and their children to have Children and so on. Remember the gene pool at that time was near perfect, and God’s blessing guided things along. Further down the family tree, sin started to grab a hold causing defects etc. God eventually put a stop to this method to re-procreation.
People of different colours and races? Result of tower of Babel
There’s so much information in the bible, it is an amazing book.
