Catholic Features of Voodoo Ceremonies
March 27th, 2009
The Voodoo ceremonies began to evolve in the middle of the 19th century. What started as primitive African Rites Christian slowly turned into Roman Catholic features, giving the ceremonies its queer mixture that currently exists. Many Catholic features are grafted upon the Vodooo base. It begins with the Apostle’s Creed, and then prayers to the Virgin Mary follow this. There is also a statue of the Virgin Mary that stands next to the altar. This is quite interesting to see how Voodoo ceremonies began to dramatically shift through the slow integration of Catholic features into a primitive existence.
