In the year 2019, the earth is much different. Cities look like garbage disposals and humans are becoming a minority. With ground breaks in genetic engineering, scientists have been able to make replicates of humans. These replicates are known as Androids. They look, speak, walk, and talk like humans but they are not. After a mutiny on an off-world colony, these Androids were declared illegal on earth. A special unit known as Blade Runners are used to seek out these Androids that attempt to live on earth and terminate them.

Based on the novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, this was the basis for the 1982 science-fiction classic Blade Runner. Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford, the film told the story of a retired blade runner named Deckard who is called back to terminate Androids who have committed mutiny of one of earth’s off-world colonies. Throughout the film, the idea of what a Blade Runner may be is explored. These elite detectives’ sole purpose is to find Androids. But how do you find an android?

The debate with this film is whether or not Deckard is an Android himself. This would be the only logical way for him to find others of his kind. When one watches the film, it is up to the viewer alone to deduce if Deckard is an Android or not.
