Bernie Mac’s Ghost

His comedy was adored by millions. He was one of Hollywood’s most respected actors. At the age of 50 on August 9, 2008, Bernard Jeffrey McCullough, aka Bernie Mac, died suddenly by complications from pneumonia. He passed away in Chicago, Illinois, where he was also born. He started as a stand-up comedian in Chicago’s Cotton Club. His popularity as a comedian began to grow at the age of 32 when he won the MIller Lite Comedy Search. From then on, he’s appeared in many movies, comedy programs, and even had his own television series, The Bernie Mac Show.

Has Bernie Mac made a ghostly presence? His wife says so. The wife he left behind, Rhonda McCullough, describes the first visit in their Chicago home:

I could smell his cologne. I inhaled and I said, ‘You’re here’. I was turning around and saying, ‘Hey Bernard’. It stayed with me for about five minutes.

I don’t always feel him. But I think he comes when I really need him.

This is another tragic Hollywood death. Our hearts go out to the family.
