Actually the John Bell of Bellwood Mansion is not the same John Bell as in Witch Haunting. This John Bell was a politician and ran for President at the same time as Abraham Lincoln. He also served as Secretary of War in 1844. He was apparently a slave owner but nothing has been said that he cruel (aside from the fact he owned people). I live on Old Highway 79 myself and havent heard peep from the locals. I did read one alleged account that sounded pure bull but who knows. Probably a rumor like the terrorist training camp in this county, nothing but campfire stories and rumors.

in to and the piano was trashed.I hated it for old Miss Anna Ray.I remember going over there and she would play us songs on that old piano.I have been in it a lot and im like April,there is nothing there.Its a shame how someone can just say a silly story about a place and then it turns out like this,everyone wanting in it so bad.and when they do get in it they cant just leave things be they have to bract everything.sometimes the old lady stays in the home.so just think about it when you bract in it just think she could be inside and that your probably scaring her to death so give it a rest and leave it along .your just wasting your time.

it has a lot of haunting history especially associated with john bell and the bell witch in adams tn. this was another one of his homes. the basement and secret chambers is probably the scariest bc it has the original locks on it that have not been opened since john bell was there. @tamberlyn

i have been in this mansion several times, pretty scary especially if you know the full history of it. there are secret chambers in the house that have the original locks and have never been opened. however there are other ways into the chambers and basement. there is a lot of the original furniture and belongings still left in the house. people have tried to buy/rent it but have been drove away.

I have been to Fort Macon many times…wonderful history and to stand on the hill and overlook the Ocean is wodnderful..plus some great places to eat…don’t forget the small gift shop…
Did I feel anything there–never as you can walk through all the rooms and see how everyone lived and fought during that time…

I spent my summers in Middle Tn. with my dad. Friends always tried to get me to go, never did. Looks like a lovely fixer upper though. I am a Christian but do believe in Spirits. My mother lived in a house off of Coles Ferry pike in Lebanon Tn. Everyone that ever did enter the home said it was haunted. I would love to get the real history. Some of the comments just don’t add up. I thought it dated back to John Bell. The spirits if they are there are crying out for help. If anyone is ever in NC. Fort Macon is a very intersting historical and some say haunted place. Most people around here will say you can feel an uneasiness when you go into the bottom of the fort where the pows were for hundreds of years. Hope someone invests into the property

I just wanted to say that I think it is sad that so many people will be so disrespectful to a property & its owners making up false stories about it to get attention & cause so much drama for the people who live there & own the property. As “April” has stated the house is not haunted so back off already & chill. Also I am sure if they ever wish to sell the house or property it will be listed like any other real estate so leave them alone.

Why is the house next door to Bellwood under locks during the day….makes me wonder what the heck…I went past the house again on Sun. and noticed the barn is down now and windows opened on the house…I restore old homes and would love to see the inside..I am not interested in haunting but love the age of that home…and such a shame for that home to not be restored…

I plan on going out that way tomorrow to my parents house is there a way to upload pictures, I would be happy to take some, I am sure I can get in the house, I can talk to Mrs. Anna Rae, she was wanting me to do a photo shoot up there when the water went back down and it is now. The house is alive and well, although it’s seen better days. It belongs to a friend of my family, (Keatts). People use to trespass all the time and it has been vandalized; a bunch of unruly teenagers have ruined it for all the paranormal/history buffs. It was built by John Bell (lawyer, politician and slave owner). He played a significant part in the events that led to the Civil War. He married a widow, Jane (Wood) Yeatman (hence the name Bell-Wood). Rumor has it that instead of freeing his slaves, he chained them in the basement and eventually killed them. Bell died in the house September 10, 1869 at age 73. I’ve spent the night there (or tried to) at least a dozen times. I never believed in ghosts until I visited the Bellwood Mansion. It’s made believers of many people. I’m sorry for those who’ve never had an opportunity to visit. I would love to buy it and turn it into a bed and breakfast. This house needs some TLC and I’d love to fix it up. I’m so excited to see that it made this list and yet it is off limits and has never been officially investigated.

@angie My family has lived in Bellwood for 20+yrs, the area around the mansion consist of 2 boat ramps, one you can no longer access, Bellwood Landing Road, runs into Patricia Circle, and a whole community lives up there, it is very rich in native american history, My dad has over 1500 piece of worked flint and actual arrow heads. There is some good fishing in that area also.

THERE IS NO HOUSE. i say this because everybody and their granny has drove by it, stored donkeys there, built a fence,admired it, heard slaves chains rattling in the damn basement but cannot produce a location. what is the problem with driving bythe house, seated in my car, being a legal citizen, andestablishing its existance. go tell that

Hello, I think I may have lived in the Bellwood House as a child. I remember it sitting on top of a hill and the driveway was like a road that followed the river. There were steps going up the hill to the house. A field of corn grew in the back and it had a well at the back door. Does this describe the house? Please let me know as I over the years have thought about the house and remember how scared I was living there but how much I would love to go back and see it again.

My family is really into ghost hunting and does it in a respectful way, no trespassing, or vandalizing..I think it’s messed up how people can go into a stranger’s home and vandalize it.
