Ball Cemetery
Ball Cemetery started in 1869 in Springfield, Nebraska as a family cemetery with unmarked graves but then over time other individuals started to be buried there as well. One of these individuals was William “Rattlesnake Pete” Liddiard. He was a United States Marshal who signed up with Buffalo Bill Cody and became known as the fastest draw in all of the United States Marshals. He died out on the west coast but his body was brought back to Springfield to be buried at Ball Cemetery. Many apparitions of ghosts have been seen and reported at this cemetery.
A tall male figure has been seen walking around the cemetery late at night. This ghost has a bad temper, and there have been reports of physical attacks by this ghost to people who have visited the site at night. Some have even found bruises on their arms or legs after visiting but have no explanation as to how they received them. Some feel that this is the work of the ghost of Rattlesnake Pete. Mary Mumford is the name of another ghost that is believed to haunt the cemetery. People have reported hearing a woman’s voice around the area, as well as being touched by a unknown figure with the sound of a woman’s laughter following. People have also reported seeing headstones tipped over and then rise back on their own.
