April 14th, 2009
The Alicanto, in Chilean mythology, is a mythological bird of the desert of Atacama. Legend has it that her wings shine with beautiful, metallic colors during the night with eyes that emit strange lights. Any miner who sees this bird brings them good luck and if they are able to follow it without getting caught, it will lead them to gold and silver. However, if they do get caught by the bird, it will mislead the miner off a cliff. They are said to live in small caves between hills that contain minerals. They also feed on gold and silver.
