Alexander the Great
Alexander the Great has been called one of the greatest conquerors in world history. However, for all his fame, he was a vicious dictator over the lands he conquered and took extreme measures to make sure his people saw it. Alexander was born in the area of Macedon, in Northern Greece. His father, Phillip, had united the Greek kingdoms and was one step closer to created a unified country under one ruler. Alexander inherited his fathers legacy after Phillip was killed. Alexander united the Greek kingdoms under his rule, and set out to destroy the Persian Empire that lay in the east. There were rumors that the Persian king Darius was responsible for the death of Phillip, so Alexander desired to greet him in open battle.
After many large-scale battles, the Persians were routed and Alexander called the empire his own. He set out to go as far east as possible. He wanted to hunt down Darius even if it meant going to the ends of the earth. Darius was found to be killed by his own men, which started him to wondering if his own men were against him. There are many theories about this. Alexander had marched his army across the world with the promise of intense riches. Many of his men were skeptical of him and wanted him to return home so they could see their children and wives again. So, it came to pass that Alexander was poisoned and to this day there is still controversy as to who did it, or if Alexander died of natural causes.
